Student Projects
The projects below demonstrate key design skills developed while still in school. Each section describes the assignment, and my thought process for approaching the challenge.
Nuclear Survival Manual
Skills developed: page layout, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator
The challenge of this project was to take an existing book and improve the layout. This book originally had no diagrams or visual aids to help process information. I added diagrams for visual interest, colored tabs to aid navigation, and gridded checklists to make the book more interactable. The body text itself was broken up more into distinct sections, and some quotes were enlarged for emphasis.
Animated Logo
Skills developed: motion graphics, Adobe AfterEffects, basic principles of animation
The challenge was to create a 15 second animated logo with additional branded products for an existing company. I chose Chucklefish, a game publisher whose games I have played. The colors are playful and engaging, and I chose to created branded items that I thought would be common to see at a gaming convention, and would also be useful for everyday life. The video uses sounds and motions that were inspired by what one might find in a video game, and the fish logo character acts as a game character might while on an adventure.
